Our culture has encouraged us to not take responsibility for our lives - but to blame other people, institutions, or our environment.

Could it be that our choices are at least part of the problem?  Sin.  Missing the target, getting on the wrong path.

How can we overcome our struggles?  Which struggles are really not our fault?  Which struggles might be?!
